Overview:
ATO designed to free your best shooter (2) for a clean catch-and-shoot three at the top of the key.
Why It Works
The pin-down into elevator action forces multiple defensive exchanges and creates confusion between help defenders. The timing of 2’s cut through the elevator makes it nearly impossible to trail.
Key Teaching Points
2 must sprint tight through the elevator to arrive on balance.
1’s wing pop keeps his defender occupied as a live threat.
Screeners (4 and 5) must close the elevator quickly and square.
The pass from 1 must be on time and in the shooting pocket.
2 advances left side, passes to 1 on the wing, then cuts through to the ball-side corner.
1 swings to 4 at the top, then sets a pin-down for 2 curling into the lane.
1 pops back to the wing.
4 returns the ball to 1.
4 and 5 close the elevator above the foul line for 2.
1 delivers to 2 for the catch-and-shoot three.
