PLAY DESCRIPTION

Overview:

ATO that uses a pin-down into a dribble handoff to disguise the action, then frees 1 for a catch-and-shoot three on the weak side after coming off a stagger.

Why It Works
The early DHO keeps the ball moving and occupies help defenders. While the defense reacts, 1 cuts baseline into a staggered double screen, leaving him free on the opposite wing for a clean shot.

Key Teaching Points

  • 1 must sell the initial curl hard before flowing into the baseline cut.

  • 2 must be patient with the dribble handoff, drawing his defender toward the ball.

  • 5 and 3 must set a firm, well-spaced stagger to free 1 into shooting range.

  • Timing between the DHO and baseline cut is critical — both actions must flow seamlessly.

PRIMARY ACTIONS

  • 1 brings the ball up left side and passes to 2 on the wing, then cuts through to the ball-side corner.

  • 2 swings the ball to 4 at the top, then sets a pin-down for 1.

  • 1 curls around the screen and immediately screens for 2, drifting into the left short corner.

  • 2 receives a dribble handoff from 4 on the wing while 4 re-spaces.

  • Simultaneously, 1 cuts baseline, using a stagger from 5 and 3 to pop out to the opposite wing.

  • 2’s first option is to hit 1 for the three; secondary looks include slips from 5 if the defense overcommits.
