Overview:
Zone quick hitter designed to collapse the defense with back-to-back ball screens, creating options for a seam drive, a rim dive, or a baseline corner three.
Why It Works
The initial ball screen and dive distort the top and middle of the zone. As the ball swings to 2, the second ball screen isolates a baseline defender, leaving him stuck between protecting the drive and closing out to the shooter in the corner.
Key Teaching Points
1 must attack the first ball screen decisively to pull the weak top defender.
5 must dive hard to the front of the rim to occupy the middle defender.
3 must sprint baseline to baseline to arrive on time in the strong-side corner.
2 must read the bottom defender: drive it, hit 5 rolling, or kick to 3 for the corner three.
Alignment: 1 in the right slot, 5 top of the key, 4 left elbow, 2 left slot, 3 in the right baseline corner.
1 dribbles at the left top defender as 5 sets a ball screen.
5 dives hard to the rim after the screen.
Simultaneously, 3 cuts baseline to the opposite (left) corner.
1 kicks to 2, now on the left wing.
4 steps up to set a second ball screen for 2, isolating the bottom left defender.
2’s reads: attack the seam, hit 4 rolling, skip to 5 popping, or find 3 in the corner for the three.
