Overview
35 STS is a man-to-man half-court set that flows through a screen-the-screener sequence. The initial stagger action frees a wing, while the follow-up inside screen creates a post look, a three-point shot, or a slip option.
Why it works
The stagger into screen-the-screener action forces the defense to cover two screening situations in quick succession. If defenders switch, it often produces a mismatch inside. If they chase, the shooter gets separation at the top of the key.
Teaching Points
2 must sprint off the stagger into shooting position.
3 sets the screen for 5 with contact to open the post.
4 sets a strong pin down and reads whether to slip on a switch.
1 must keep eyes on all three options and be patient with the reads.
Variations
On the pin down for 3, 4 can slip if the defense switches. 5 can also look for a quick seal in the lane after the screen for a secondary scoring option.
1 dribbles into the left slot to trigger action.
2 cuts off staggered baseline screens from 5 and 3 to the corner.
3 sets screen for 5 (screen-the-screener); 2 looks inside to 5.
If no post entry, 2 passes back to 1 in the slot.
4 sets a pin down for 3, who pops to the top for a three.
4 can slip on switch; 5 can seal inside for secondary option.
