“Post Double” uses a disguised dribble handoff and a dual screening sequence to manipulate help defenders. The action opens with baseline and mid-post movement that leads directly into a back screen and high-low finish. The structure punishes switching defenses and rewards timing and spacing.
Why It Works
The sequence combines horizontal and vertical movement, pulling the defense out of alignment. The initial dribble handoff fake shifts help coverage, while the baseline-to-wing stagger and delayed back screen exploit defenders recovering late. The result is a clean high-low passing lane or a mismatch near the rim.
Key Teaching Points
1 must sell the handoff — it’s the misdirection trigger for the defense.
4 must catch in the mid-post (logo area), not low block, to preserve spacing.
3’s timing on the back screen for 5 determines the success of the high-low look.
2’s route through the baseline stagger must be quick and tight to pull defenders.
4 should read 5’s defender immediately — the lob or drop pass must be on time.
Alignment: 1 right slot (ball), 4 left slot, 3 left corner, 2 right corner, 5 high post (foul line).
1 dribbles toward 4, faking a handoff while 4 dives into the left mid-post.
3 runs the baseline to the right short corner, setting a screen for 2.
2 cuts off 3’s baseline screen, then comes off a second screen from 4, forming a wide stagger.
1 hits 2 on the left wing, then clears to the opposite (right) wing.
2 enters the ball to 4 in the mid-post area (logo).
3 sprints up from the right short corner to set a back screen for 5.
5 dives to the rim for the lob or high-low pass from 4.
After screening, 3 pops to the left slot for a secondary option.
