Quick Overview
24 Toronto blends multiple screening actions to disguise its true goal: setting up a low DHO at the mid-post. By combining a ball screen, flex cut, and handoff on an empty side, the play forces the defense into multiple rotations before isolating 2 attacking downhill with spacing around.
Why It Works
The flex action occupies weak-side defenders while the ball screen draws help. By the time the ball reaches 4 in the mid-post, the floor is cleared, and 2 can explode into a DHO drive. With the ball screen, cut, and re-space actions layered together, help rotations come too late, leaving clean options at the rim or kick-outs.
Key Teaching Points
1 must come off the initial ball screen with intent to engage both defenders.
4 must cut hard off the flex to receive at the mid-post on time.
2 must time his sprint out of the corner to arrive for the DHO perfectly.
5 must roll and then settle in the dunker spot to occupy help.
Spacing from 1, 3, and 4 after the handoff is critical to open the lane for 2.
Setup: 1 right slot (ball), 5 left elbow extended, 3 right mid-post, 4 right wing, 2 left corner.
5 steps up into a ball screen for 1.
Simultaneously, 3 sets a flex screen for 4, who cuts to the left mid-post. 3 then relocates to the right corner.
1 comes off the ball screen as 5 rim-runs; 1 hits 4 in the mid-post.
Immediately, 2 sprints out of the left corner to take a DHO from 4.
1 re-spaces to the right slot, 5 settles in the right dunker spot, 3 stays in the right corner, 4 pops to the left wing after the handoff.
Reads: 2 finishing at the rim, dump-off to 5 if his man helps, or kick-outs to 1, 3, or 4 for perimeter looks.
