Overview:
ATO or quick hitter against a zone, designed to free 4 for a wide-open three at the top of the key after a sequence of screens and dives.
Why It Works
The initial wing dives pull the baseline defenders down, while 1’s ball screen attack forces the top of the zone to collapse. The re-screen by 5 on the opposite top defender clears space for 4 to pop to the top unguarded.
Key Teaching Points
1 must attack the gap hard off the initial screen to force help.
2 and 3 must dive decisively to the corners to stretch the zone baseline.
5 must recognize the timing and release quickly into the second screen.
4 must space properly on the pop — not too deep, right at the arc.
Start in a 1–4 high: 1 top, 5 left elbow, 4 right elbow, 2 left wing, 3 right wing.
5 sets a ball screen for 1 on the outside shoulder of the left top defender.
2 and 3 dive from the wings into the baseline corners to spread the zone.
1 drives hard into the seam between the top and wing defenders.
5 releases and sets a second screen on the opposite top defender.
4 pops to the top of the key.
1 kicks to 4 for the catch-and-shoot three.
