PLAY DESCRIPTION

Overview:

Entry into the continuity zone offense that starts with double high ball screens, designed to attack the top line of the zone and flow seamlessly into the X Games pattern.

Why It Works
The double high screens force both top defenders of the zone to make difficult decisions. As 1 attacks, the dive-pop action between 4 and 5 creates immediate inside-out pressure. Once the ball swings to the wing, the continuity triggers and repeats.

Key Teaching Points

  • 1 must choose a side decisively when using the ball screens.

  • 4 must dive immediately to the ball-side short corner to occupy the low defender.

  • 5 must pop opposite to balance the floor and be a reversal option.

  • Perimeter players must drift to the corners to stretch the baseline.

  • Flow directly into the continuity without hesitation — no dead stops.

PRIMARY ACTIONS

  • Start in a 1–4 high alignment: 1 top, 4 left elbow, 5 right elbow, 2 right wing, 3 left wing.

  • 4 and 5 step out to set double ball screens on the top defenders of the zone.

  • 1 attacks off 5’s screen (example: right side).

  • 4 dives to the ball-side short corner/low block.

  • 5 pops out to the opposite slot for floor balance.

  • 1 looks to hit 2 on the wing, who can feed 4 inside to trigger the post action.

  • 1 drifts to the weak wing, 3 fills the slot, and the team flows into continuity.
