Quick Overview
“Over” is a simple yet effective continuity offense designed to overload the ball side and force the zone to defend constant movement. With guard exchanges, baseline cuts, and short-corner to high-post rotations, the play generates repeated high-low looks and driving gaps.
Why It Works
Zones struggle against continuous movement combined with short-corner and high-post actions. By cutting below the top defenders and flashing to gaps instead of spots, the offense creates mismatches and opportunities to feed the post or attack downhill.
Key Teaching Points
Guards must cut below the top defenders to distort the zone.
Baseline runners must time their cuts with the guard exchange.
Posts should look for gaps, not fixed spots — read the zone and react.
Ball must move quickly side-to-side to force long closeouts and breakdowns.
Alignment: 1 top, 2 right wing, 3 left wing, 5 left short corner, 4 right short corner.
1 passes to 2, who immediately returns it to 1.
On the reversal, 1 cuts below the top two defenders across the foul line to the left wing.
Simultaneously, 3 cuts low along the baseline to the right corner.
1 hits 2 on the left wing.
4 flashes from the right short corner to the ball-side elbow, while 5 finds space in the ball-side short corner.
Reads: 2 can drive, look high-low to 4 and 5, or kick back to 1 for reversal.
Continuity resets: ball swings back, with 3 shifting up to the wing, guards cutting across, and posts exchanging between elbow and short corner.
