Overview
Zona Stack is a zone offense set built to attack multiple levels of the defense. Starting from stacked low-block alignments, the action creates rim pressure, ball reversal, and baseline screening to produce either an inside score, penetration lane, or open three.
Why it works
The initial stack action forces defenders to chase across the zone, while the middle screen frees a big right at the rim. Subsequent baseline and perimeter screens stretch the zone, usually leaving either a shooter wide open in the corner or a big sealing in the paint.
Teaching Points
The shooter must sprint hard out of the stack to the baseline corner.
Timing between the diagonal cut and middle screen is critical.
4 must screen with contact, then dive or seal if the defender fights over.
Ball reversal must be quick to shift the zone and open the baseline action.
Variations
If the shooter is covered on the baseline cut, 4 should dive into the paint for a layup or seal while 5 lifts to the elbow, creating a high-low option.
2 (best shooter) wraps around 4 into left baseline corner; 3 cuts diagonally to left slot.
1 hits 3, then drifts to opposite slot.
4 screens middle low defender; 5 curls over top for layup (first option).
3 skips to 1 on opposite wing; 4 steps up to screen top outside defender.
4 then dives down to screen bottom defender; 2 cuts baseline to ball-side corner for three.
If denied, 4 seals in paint while 5 lifts to elbow (high-low).
